Manuel,
I often use a site called 'www.rentacoder.com' which implements your new Professional Directory and much more.
You may already know about this site, but if not, it's worth taking a look at it to see what other enhancements you could make.
The 'Project Bidding' element is probably the most important, as it allows PHP professionals to actively seek work.

Yes, I know about RentACoder and other similar sites. They are for a different purposes which is project payment escrow. They make money from project value commissions. That can be done but it raises a certain complexity that demands people working full time moderating the projects and take care of fiscal and legal issues.
The purpose the PHPClasses PHP professionals directory is a little different. It is meant to advertise professionals available for hire, not necessarily on a project by project basis.
In this directory potential employers may learn where are eventual job candidates near their regions and possibly come to work in their offices.
The PHPClasses site just provides means for professionals and employers know about each other. The eventual hiring is done between them directly.
That does not mean that this service will not evolve to solve other problems that concern professionals and employers.
Anyway, thank you for the tip. |

| I agree with Manuel. I have used www.getafreelancer.com to post projects. This type of sites are useful for outsourcing. However, the phpclasses site offers a possibility to search for developers in a specific geographical region and in the future also for specific expertise. This makes it interesting and much different than typical escrow sites... |
